Whatever You Want It to Be Series
With this series I think through the geometric shapes I want to start with. I first draw with carbon pencil the main shapes that form my composition. I erase, draw again, erase, etc. until I hit upon a composition that looks and feels right, and also allows for areas of the natural color of the linen to show through. I draw different sizes and shapes of geometric shapes, some positive, some negative, with clearly defined lines that organize my areas.
The title of this series speaks to the questions and responses that so many viewers have, when looking at Abstract Art. There is often a feeling of not knowing what to think when looking at Abstractions. In order to find a way to relate to it, some viewers try to see something familiar in a painting, whether it be an animal shape, a landscape or whatever representational connection comes to them. I titled this series Whatever You Want It to Be, to give viewers a way to feel more comfortable with their emotions when viewing my Abstract paintings.
